On March 15th, Meinhardt’s Dr Methee Chiewanichakorn was invited as one of the speakers to present at an online seminar called “Designing Steel Structures with Architectural Space Frame / Dome / Grid / Spiral Structures” sponsored by Pacific Pipe Public Co., Ltd. Various design and industry professionals, including engineers, architects, contractors and suppliers, presented related topics. Dr Methee, representing the Thai Structural Engineering Association (TSEA), presented the topic of “Introduction of Space Frame and Basic Structural Steel Design”. This presentation addressed fundamental definitions and the advantages of space frames as well as providing an explanation why tube sections are mostly used in space frame structures. The second half of the presentation included basic structural analysis methods, load path identification and member design. Design concepts for axial members and node connectors was also discussed.
