IKEA Bang Yai achieved LEED Platinum Certification

As global society wakes up to the reality of climate change, owners and those in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry are looking at ways to make our buildings more ecologically sustainable. IKEA Bang Yai incorporates many sustainable design principles, earning it LEED Platinum – the highest rating under LEED New Construction (version 2009).

Significantly this project is the first IKEA store worldwide and also the first retail store in Thailand to achieve certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. IKEA Bang Yai is the second IKEA store constructed in Thailand and currently the largest IKEA store in Southeast Asia. The project total GFA is 110,000 sq.m. or 50,200 sq.m. excluding stacked car park, built over 4 levels with a concourse connection to the Central WestGate. Meinhardt Thailand provided LEED and Green Mark Consultancy Services and also undertook a peer review of the Civil & Structural engineering for the project.

Khun Chen Yao Hui, Director and Khun Lalit Thitipaisal, ESD Manager recently joined Mr. Enrique Jimenez, Ikano Construction Manager and Mr. Tom Suter, Store Manager, for the official presentation of the LEED Platinum Certificate at IKEA Bang Yai.
